Business Central banking integration for feeds, payments and reconciliation
Business Central banking integration connects your bank accounts to the ledger in both directions. Statements and transactions come in for reconciliation. Vendor payments go out as electronic files. Business Central includes bank feeds, statement import, payment export and Positive Pay as standard features. We set them up for your banks. Then we show your team how to reconcile from them.

Bank feeds in Business Central banking integration
In the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, Business Central can link a bank account to your online bank. It uses the Envestnet Yodlee bank feeds extension. Transactions then arrive in the Payment Reconciliation Journal, either automatically or on demand. Your accountants see yesterday's activity when they start work.
A feed may not be available, or you may not want one. In that case, you import statements as files. Business Central reads common bank statement formats through data exchange definitions. We build a definition when your bank's layout is unusual. Either way, the bank's lines reach the system without typing.

Electronic payments and Positive Pay
You prepare vendor payments in the payment journal. Then you export them as a file that your bank accepts, such as an ACH file in the United States. We set up vendor bank accounts, payment methods and remittance advice by email. So a payment run needs only a few clicks.
For checks, Positive Pay exports the list of issued checks. The bank can then refuse any that do not match. We set up the export format that your bank specifies. Next, we test a file with the bank's treasury team. Then we document the upload step for your staff. We keep the bank's confirmation with the setup notes.

Reconciling with Business Central banking integration
Once lines arrive, automatic application matches them to open customer and vendor entries. It uses amount, document number and text. Payment application rules control how sure a match must be. Text-to-account mappings post recurring items, such as bank charges, straight to the right account. You can see and adjust every proposed application before posting.
The bank account reconciliation page then compares statement lines to bank ledger entries. Copilot can suggest matches for lines that the rules miss. We tune the rules on your real statements. So most lines match on their own, and your team handles only exceptions. Month-end reconciliation becomes a short task with Business Central banking integration.

How we set up Business Central banking integration
We list every bank account, what each bank offers and which formats it needs. Then we complete the bank account cards with the right export and import formats, currencies and posting groups. Accounts in other currencies need care, so exchange differences post correctly. We also define number series for payments and reconciliations.
We test payment files with the bank before any real money moves. Usually, the bank validates a test file. Next, we reconcile a recent period together in a sandbox. Your accountants learn the pages on their own data. Then we repeat the setup in production.

Security and control pitfalls
Payment files are a fraud target, so Business Central banking integration needs control. The person who changes a vendor's bank account should not be the person who exports the payment. So we set permissions and approval workflows. Vendor bank changes and payment journals then need a second person. The change log also records edits to bank details.
Other pitfalls are quieter. A bank account may lack a statement number sequence. Feeds may stop when online banking credentials change. A statement may be imported twice. We add checks for each and explain how to spot them. Also, someone who does not prepare payments should do the bank reconciliation.
Tighten payment controls →- ✓Segregated payment duties
- ✓Approval on payment journals
- ✓Change log on bank details
- ✓Duplicate statement checks
- ✓Feed connection monitoring
Business Central banking integration FAQ
Does Business Central banking integration connect directly to my bank?
For many banks in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, yes. The bank feeds service included with Business Central does this. Other banks work by statement file import and payment file export. We confirm which route your bank supports before setup. That check is quick, and it keeps you from planning around a feature your bank does not offer.
Can Business Central send ACH payments to vendors?
Yes. The payment journal exports electronic payment files in the format chosen on the bank account card. You upload the file to your bank's portal. Or a bank connectivity add-on sends it for you. Remittance advice can go by email to each vendor. We test the file with your bank first, so the first live run goes smoothly.
What is Positive Pay and do we need it?
Positive Pay is a bank service that compares presented checks with a list you send. Business Central exports that list. If you still issue paper checks, it is a strong protection against altered or forged checks. Most commercial banks offer it. We set it up if you use checks, and we skip it if you do not.
How does automatic matching decide what to apply?
The system scores each statement line against open entries. It uses amount, document numbers and related party text. It then applies matches above the confidence level that your rules allow. Lines it cannot match stay open. A person then applies or posts them by hand. We tune the level on your real statements.
Can we reconcile accounts in foreign currencies?
Yes. Each bank account card carries its own currency, and reconciliation happens in that currency. Exchange rate adjustments post gains and losses to the accounts in your currency setup. The bank ledger keeps both the foreign amount and its local currency value. So your reports stay clear.
