Moving from Odoo to Business Central: a migration for growing companies
An Odoo to Business Central migration replaces a set of Odoo apps and custom modules with one Microsoft ERP. The job is to move contacts, products, open documents and accounting balances. We also decide what each custom module turns into. We handle the mapping, the loads and the testing. Your Odoo database stays readable until you trust the new books.

Is an Odoo to Business Central migration the right call?
Odoo is a modular, open-source business suite from Odoo S.A. It comes in a free Community edition and a paid Enterprise edition. It appeals to young companies because you add apps one at a time. Business Central is Microsoft's ERP for small and mid-sized firms. It puts finance at the center, with a fixed base application that Microsoft updates.
In short, companies usually look at switching for three reasons. Accounting and audit needs may grow stricter. Custom Odoo modules may have become hard to keep up through version upgrades. Or the rest of the business may already run on Microsoft 365. If Odoo still serves you well, we say so.

Contacts, products and variants in the new structure
Odoo holds customers, suppliers and people in one contacts model. Business Central keeps customers and vendors as separate records. Each has posting groups, payment terms and its own ledger. People can get optional contact cards. So we split the Odoo list to match. We also flag any party that is both a customer and a vendor.
In an Odoo to Business Central migration, products with attributes such as size or color become items with variants. Or they become separate items when you price and stock them on their own. Product categories map to item categories. Routes and stock locations map to locations and bins. We tidy units of measure at this stage too.

Moving the accounting: chart, journals and analytic accounts
We map the chart of accounts account by account. Odoo analytic accounts and tags become Business Central dimensions. So project, department or channel reporting carries on. We set up taxes fresh with Business Central's own tax setup. We do not copy them, because the two systems work out and report tax in different ways.
Opening balances post through general journals as of the cutover date. We load unpaid customer and vendor invoices one by one. Then you can collect, pay and apply them as normal. Bank accounts start from a reconciled statement balance. Your accountant signs the opening trial balance against Odoo before anyone posts new entries.

What becomes of custom Odoo modules
Custom Odoo modules are written in Python against Odoo's own framework. So the code has no use in Business Central. We assess each module for what it does. It might be a changed screen, an extra approval, a calculated field or an integration. Personalization, workflows or standard setup cover many of them. Others match an existing AppSource solution.
However, where a real gap remains, our developers write an AL extension. We keep it small and document it. Odoo bundles some areas that Business Central does not, such as a website builder or a full marketing suite. For those, we connect the specialist tool you prefer.
Scope your custom modules →- ✓Covered by standard features
- ✓Handled by personalization
- ✓Replaced with a workflow
- ✓Matched to an add-on

Finishing an Odoo to Business Central migration: test, train, switch
We run a full trial conversion into a sandbox. Then we hand it to your key users with a list of everyday tasks. For example, entering an order, receiving a purchase, paying a vendor and closing a day. We log every problem they find and fix it in the mapping or the setup. Then we run the conversion again from the start.
Finally, training for your Odoo to Business Central migration is short and based on roles. It uses your own migrated data, so examples look familiar. On the cutover weekend, the final loads run in the order we rehearsed. We sign the balances, and users start in Business Central on the next working day. Our consultants answer questions during US business hours.
Set a go-live plan →- ✓Sales order to invoice
- ✓Purchase order to payment
- ✓Stock transfer and count
- ✓Bank reconciliation

Odoo to Business Central migration questions
Can data be moved directly from the Odoo database?
We can read from Odoo exports. For self-hosted installations, we can also read from the database itself. Either way, we reshape the data before loading, because the table structures differ. Business Central then imports it through configuration packages, journals or its APIs. We test each load in a sandbox first, and we compare the counts and totals against Odoo.
Does the Odoo edition or hosting type matter?
It affects how we get the data out. It does not change what we can move. Self-hosted systems allow direct database access. Hosted subscriptions rely on exports and the Odoo API. We confirm the available route at the start, so extraction holds no surprise later. Then the Odoo to Business Central migration plan can rest on firm facts.
What replaces the Odoo apps we use outside accounting?
Sales, purchasing, inventory, projects, manufacturing and service are part of Business Central. For e-commerce, marketing automation or a public website, Business Central connects to specialist products. We list each Odoo app you use and name its replacement before work begins. So you know the full picture of the new setup, and no app is forgotten.
Will we lose our transaction history in an Odoo to Business Central migration?
No. Open items and balances move into Business Central. Detailed history stays available in an Odoo backup or an exported archive. Some companies also load summarized monthly ledger history. Then comparative reports work from the first period. We agree the right depth with your accountant, because it changes the size of the project a great deal.
Is Business Central harder to customize than Odoo?
It is more structured. Changes ship as AL extensions that sit apart from Microsoft's base application. That keeps updates manageable. Users can also personalize pages themselves. Power Automate covers many simple automations without a developer. So most day-to-day tweaks need no code at all, and the bigger ones follow a clear, tested path.
