Business Central Consultant in Memphis for Distributors

A Business Central consultant in Memphis has to know distribution inside out. The city calls itself America's distribution center for good reason: air, river, rail and road all meet here. We work remotely from Phoenix, Arizona. We help Memphis distributors, device makers and commodity merchants run Business Central by screen share during US business hours.

Why Memphis warehouses need Business Central set up for flow

Memphis has one of the busiest cargo airports in the world. It also has a river port on the Mississippi, big rail lines and highways in all directions. Firms place national distribution centers here so that one building can reach most of the country fast. But the building only pays off if goods flow through it.

We design the warehouse setup around that flow. Receipts can cross-dock straight to outbound orders. Pick faces get refilled from bulk storage, and pick worksheets give wave-style picking. We also build the evening air cut-off into order promising. So customer service quotes dates the dock can meet. Our Business Central consultants map receiving, put-away and picking for Memphis warehouses first.

🦴Orthopedic firms

Business Central for Memphis orthopedic firms

The Memphis area is a known center for orthopedic devices such as joint implants and surgical instruments. The industry has an unusual stock model. Firms send sets of implants and instruments to hospitals on consignment. Surgeons use a few pieces, and the rest come back.

Business Central treats each hospital or sales representative as a location. Transfer orders send kits out and bring them back. You invoice usage from that location, so stock and revenue stay in step. Lot and serial numbers are tracked throughout. Expiry dates on sterile items also decide which kit goes out first. For Memphis device makers, our Business Central consultants set up serial and lot tracking.

🌱River and rail

Cotton, grain and bulk goods on the river

Memphis grew up as a cotton market on the Mississippi. Merchants, warehouses and farm suppliers are still part of its economy, along with barge and rail traffic in grain, steel and chemicals. Commodity firms buy and sell on contracts and hold positions. They earn thin margins on large volumes.

We set up purchase and sales contracts as blanket orders with releases against them. Units of measure cover bales, bushels and tons. Lot tracking keeps grade and origin with the goods. We then add freight with item charges. That way, each contract's margin includes what it cost to move. Our Business Central consultants set up units of measure for Memphis cotton and grain merchants.

🎸Music city trade

Business Central for Memphis music, barbecue and visitor firms

Beale Street, the recording studios and the city's barbecue draw visitors all year. Behind them are restaurant groups, venues, attractions and food brands that ship sauces and rubs nationally. These are multi-site firms with many small sales. Their owners want to see each site's result.

Point of sale systems stay in place. We feed their daily totals into Business Central by location and payment type. Dimensions then report profit by site. Some brands also sell packaged food. For them, stock, production batches and web store orders run in the same system as the restaurant accounts. For Memphis restaurants and venues, our Business Central consultants link sales systems to the ledger.

How our Business Central consultants serve Memphis from Phoenix, on Central time

Our Business Central team works from our office at 217 N Central Ave in Phoenix, Arizona. We are part of Sataware Technologies, headquartered in Woodbury, Minnesota, with a development team in India. Memphis is on Central time, an hour or two ahead of us depending on the season. So most of the working day is shared. You get help by video, shared screen, phone and email during US business hours.

Memphis sits where Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas meet, and many distributors have buildings in more than one of them. Each building is a location with its own tax area and its own stock. If the buildings belong to different legal entities, they become separate companies. Those companies trade through intercompany documents. Memphis teams meet our Business Central consultants by video and shared screen.

Questions

Business Central in Memphis: questions and answers

Where does your team work, if not in Memphis?

No. We work remotely from our office in Phoenix, Arizona. For an in-person meeting, contact us to arrange one. For warehouse projects, we study your layout from drawings and video. Then we set up the system in a sandbox. Finally, we train your supervisors and operators over video, using test orders. So the first live day feels familiar to them.

Does Business Central support cross-docking?

Yes. A receipt may arrive for an item that an outbound order needs. Business Central can then suggest a move to a cross-dock bin instead of a put-away. For that, you must switch on warehouse receipts and put-aways for the location. We set up the bins and the rules for you.

How is consignment stock at a hospital shown?

It shows as stock you still own, held at a location that stands for the hospital. It stays on your balance sheet until the hospital reports usage. Then the system posts a sales invoice from that location. You enter counts at the hospital as physical inventory. So stock stays honest.

Can Business Central handle sales by the bale and purchases by weight?

Yes. Each item has a base unit of measure and any number of other units with conversion factors. But each bale may have a different actual weight. In that case, lot-level quantities or a catch weight extension give precise figures. We choose between them based on how your contracts are priced.

We use a third-party warehouse in Memphis. Should we still use warehouse features?

Usually not the full set. The provider runs its own warehouse system. So Business Central keeps a simple location for the stock. It swaps orders and confirmations with the provider through an integration. We set that up, and we match stock between the two on a regular basis.
