A Business Central fit gap analysis you can plan from
A Business Central fit gap analysis lists what your business needs and tests each need against the standard product. It then records whether the need fits as delivered, fits with setup or leaves a gap. It answers the question every buyer has before signing. How much works out of the box, and what will the rest involve?

What a Business Central fit gap analysis tells you
A demonstration shows the product at its best. A fit gap analysis shows it against your own processes, including the awkward ones. Think of the customer who needs consignment stock. Think of the rebate nobody fully understands, or the commission rule with three exceptions. Every requirement gets a plain verdict and a note on how it would be met.
The outcome is a document that leadership can decide from. It shows how much of the business runs on standard Business Central. Add-ons worth a look are listed. It also shows where custom AL development would be needed. In addition, the document flags needs that may be easier to change than to build for.

Workshops for a Business Central fit gap analysis
We run workshops by process, not by department. The processes are quote to cash, procure to pay, plan to produce and record to report. The people who do the work walk through real examples. Meanwhile, our consultants ask what triggers each step, what information is needed and what goes wrong on a bad day.
We write requirements as outcomes. A statement such as buyers must see open purchase orders per vendor before ordering can be tested. However, a statement such as the system must be flexible cannot. We give each one an owner and a priority. So later trade-offs have something to rest on.

- ✓Record to report
- ✓Inventory and warehousing
Testing each requirement in the product
We record a fit only after we have seen it work. Our consultants set up a sandbox with a sample of your items, customers and vendors. Then they run each scenario on standard pages. Depending on what you do, these may be sales orders, item tracking, dimensions, approval workflows, or assembly or production orders.
Some requirements depend on the license you choose. We say so. Manufacturing and service management sit in Premium, not Essentials, and that affects the verdict. Where standard behavior is close but different, we show your process owner the difference on screen. Then they judge whether it is acceptable.

Closing the gaps your fit gap analysis finds
A gap has more than one answer. Sometimes the process can change to match the product, which costs nothing to maintain. Power Automate or a report layout may cover it. A mature add-on may already exist. In other cases a small extension written in AL is the cleanest route.
For every gap, we lay out the realistic options and their effects. We show what each means for updates, for licensing and for the people doing the job. We mark large or risky gaps clearly. They drive the size of the project far more than the long list of things that simply fit.
Discuss your biggest gaps →- ✓Change the process
- ✓Configure standard features
- ✓Add a Power Automate flow
- ✓Adopt an AppSource add-on
- ✓Build an AL extension
The Business Central fit gap analysis document and what follows
You receive a requirements register. Every line has a verdict, an explanation and a priority. A summary groups the gaps by size and risk. We write it for the people who approve budgets as well as those who will configure the system. Both can follow the language.
The register then becomes the backbone of the project. It feeds the scope, the design, the test scripts and the training plan. So nothing agreed in a workshop is lost later. Suppose you decide Business Central is not the right product. Then the same document helps you assess another one.

Business Central fit gap analysis FAQ
Do we need a fit gap analysis for a small implementation?
A lighter one, yes. Even a finance-only rollout has needs around dimensions, approvals, bank formats and reporting. These deserve a written verdict. The work scales with the business. A simple company needs a few focused workshops. A fuller study fits where manufacturing or warehousing is involved.
Who from our side should take part?
The people who run each process day to day should join. So should someone with authority to decide when a requirement and the standard product disagree. Without that person, every difference becomes a customization request by default. Then the project grows and nobody chose that.
Does a gap always mean custom development?
No. Many gaps close through a process change, setup, a workflow or an existing add-on. Custom AL extensions are the right answer when the need is specific to how you compete. In a Business Central fit gap analysis, we present the options for each gap. So the choice is deliberate.
Can the analysis be done before we buy licenses?
Yes, and that is the most useful moment. We work in a trial or sandbox environment. So you see your own scenarios in the product before you commit. The findings also tell you whether Essentials covers your needs or whether you require Premium.
What if we are upgrading from NAV or Dynamics GP?
Then the analysis also looks at your existing changes. Many features that once needed custom code are standard in current Business Central. So part of the work is deciding which customizations to retire. We also decide which to replace with setup and which to rebuild as extensions.
