Business Central Dynamics 365 Sales integration, configured and tested
Business Central Dynamics 365 Sales integration is a standard Microsoft feature that connects the two applications through Dataverse. Our consultants run the assisted setup and couple customers to accounts. They also couple items to products and align price lists and units. Then they switch on sales orders. Then a deal won in Sales arrives in Business Central ready to ship and invoice.

What the Business Central Dynamics 365 Sales integration does
Microsoft builds this link into Business Central. It rests on the Dataverse connection and adds Sales-specific pieces. These sync salespeople with users and customers with accounts. They also sync contacts, items and resources with products, plus units of measure, currencies and price lists. All of this is setup. You need no custom code.
On top of master data, it handles documents. An order submitted in Sales can become a sales order in Business Central. Quotes work in a similar way. Posted invoices go back, so the account record in Sales shows what you billed.

When a Business Central Dynamics 365 Sales integration is worth it
It makes sense when sales works in Dynamics 365 Sales. It also makes sense when operations works in Business Central. Without it, a salesperson quotes from a product list that may be out of date. Then the salesperson emails the order to someone who types it again.
It matters even more when pricing is complex. Price lists sync from Business Central. So the price a salesperson quotes is the price finance will invoice. Sales staff also see stock and account numbers inside their own app. That view answers many customer questions.
See if you are ready →- ✓Orders typed twice
- ✓Quotes using stale prices
- ✓No view of invoices
- ✓Separate customer lists
- ✓Stock unknown to sales
How we set up Business Central Dynamics 365 Sales integration
We start in test setups on both sides. The assisted setup guide creates the connection and installs the integration solution in Sales. It also sets up an integration user. Then we go through the table mappings, adjust field mappings and set filters. That way, only the records you want will sync.
Coupling follows. We match existing accounts and customers by rules we agree, such as name and postal code. Records with no match are created on the other side. We run the first sync in a set order. Currencies and units come first, then salespeople, customers, items and prices.

What you have once the Dynamics 365 Sales integration is live
Salespeople open an account in Sales and see Business Central data beside it. A submitted order crosses over and lands as a sales order. It carries the right customer, items, prices and salesperson code. When the invoice posts, Sales updates on its own.
Your administrator receives a record of every mapping we changed from the default. They also get the schedule of sync job queue entries. And they get guidance on two pages, Integration Synchronization Errors and Coupled Data Synchronization Errors. Those pages list problems with the reason and an option to retry.

Pitfalls in the Business Central Dynamics 365 Sales integration
Units and currencies cause early failures. Products in Sales need a unit group. An item whose unit never synced will not couple. Doing the first steps in the right order avoids a long error list on day one. We check them early.
Custom fields need care. The standard mapping covers standard fields. Do your items carry custom attributes that salespeople need? Then a developer must extend the mapping with AL code and matching columns in Dataverse. We scope that apart, so the standard part goes live first.

Business Central Dynamics 365 Sales integration FAQ
Is the integration with Dynamics 365 Sales included in Business Central?
Yes, the integration feature is part of Business Central. You set it up with an assisted setup guide. You need licenses for both products. The user who runs the setup needs admin rights in each environment. That lets the setup install the integration solution.
What role does Dataverse play?
Dataverse is the data platform underneath Dynamics 365 Sales. Business Central connects to Dataverse first, and the Sales integration builds on that link. Couplings join the records. Scheduled jobs copy changes, following the direction set on each table mapping.
Can one Sales environment connect to several Business Central companies?
It is possible, with care. Microsoft supports multi-company sync by tagging Dataverse records with a company. So each Business Central company syncs its own records. This needs planning around shared customers and products. We design it before anything is coupled.
Do sales orders transfer automatically?
They can. Turn on sales order integration. Then a user can pick an action to create a sales order from a submitted order. Or a job queue entry can do it on its own. We help you choose based on how much checking you want.
What happens when a record fails to synchronize?
The synchronization errors page in Business Central logs the failure with its cause. An administrator fixes the underlying data, for example a missing unit of measure, and retries. Nothing is lost. Other records keep syncing as normal.
