We keep each screen to a handful of measures in a clear order: what needs action now, what is drifting, and what is fine. We use color sparingly and consistently. Before we build anything, we sketch the layout. Then the people who will use it say what is missing.

Power BI adds richer visuals, trends over time and data from other sources. Many companies start with the built-in cues and add Power BI later.

Do we need extra licenses for Power BI dashboards?

In some cases, you can view embedded Power BI reports inside Business Central with a free Power BI license. Sharing reports through workspaces generally needs Power BI Pro or capacity. Microsoft's site has the current terms. We confirm what your scenario needs before you buy anything, because the answer depends on who views the reports.

How current is the data on a dashboard?

Cues and charts on the home page read live data whenever the page loads. Power BI reports usually show data as of their last scheduled refresh, and you set that schedule. Can each user have a different dashboard?

You assign home pages by role. So a purchasing agent and an accountant see different content. Within a role, each user can personalize their own view. For Power BI, one report can filter itself by the signed-in user through row-level security. That means one report can serve a whole team without showing anyone more than they should see.

Can a dashboard combine Business Central with other systems?

Yes, in Power BI. A model can bring together Business Central, a CRM, a web store and spreadsheets. The only need is a shared key, such as customer or item number.
